real estate careerAfter being in the real estate business for 20 plus years, I’ve seen many agents come and go. There are quite a few things I’ve noticed throughout my career that can begin a lifelong dream of being a real estate agent. Over the next couple of weeks, I’m going to share with you some tips for when you first go along the real estate profession to set yourself up of a stellar career.

First, as you begin your career in real estate, it’s very important to find the right managing broker to work for and sell real estate. This can either start a lifelong career in real estate industry or end it quickly.

When you first start looking for different brokers to work for, you want to make sure the one you choose carries the same values and work ethic as yourself. It’s like any other type of relationship, and the better you mesh with your broker, the more likely you will get along and succeed.

You’re also going to want a good training program to work with. There’s many different aspects of the business you will need to learn. Beginning in real estate, you’ll want to find a broker that offers training. Even if you have to have a larger split, it will pay off in the long run because you’ll have gained the knowledge and experience needed to survive and succeed. You will be able to look for another broker with a better split once you have achieved a basic level of knowledge and experience and have proven yourself successful.

A word of caution, I have seen plenty of agents sign up with their friends broker just to get in the business only to find out that the broker doesn’t offer training (or not enough training). The agent quickly becomes burned out and overworked because they don’t know how to manage their time properly, prospect for clients, or handle negotiations for the real estate transaction.

If you want to succeed in this business, you have to make sure you set yourself up properly. Learn the business correctly so you can do the business correctly.
