Damon1. Your not marketing yourself. You have everything set up and ready to go, but nobody knows you’re there. You have to be marketing yourself so potential clients know who you are! There are plenty of creative ways you can marketing yourself and if you need any help with ideas you can check out Agents Online.

2. Your not on the phone. Yes, you have to pick up the phone and not only make contact with your old clients and prospects, but also making cold calls to develop new leads and win clients. If you hate making cold calls, here are 5 tips to make it easier

3. You blame outside factors. It would be easy to blame your boss, the company you work for, or even the economy in general, but those things don’t stop the top producers from selling homes. The book Tuned In gives an example of an agent in Phoenix named Russell Shaw who outsells everyone in his area. Even though the average agent in Phoenix sells 8 – 12 homes per year and the top agents sell 22 – 30 homes per year, Shaw sold 418 homes in 2006! Now that’s someone who is not letting outside factors decide how much he sells.

This is a great post. I think I most ofter blame outside factors like the economy for my lack of sales.

I think my biggest problem is I am not on the phone enough. It is easy to get discouraged in a tough economy.

It is easy to get discouraged. But it’s important to remember that it won’t last forever.

It reminds me of the University of Michigan’s football team slogan:

“Those who stay will be champions”

Just keep pluging along during these times and you’ll be far ahead of all the others who got discouraged and didn’t do the necessary work during these times.

I think the key to being successful in real estate is to be better than your competition and make sure that everyone knows it. You need to be better at taking photos, a better web presence, know your market better, and just plain know more about real estate than other people. Being learning as much as you can and putting the time in it will come, but it won’t come easy and it won’t come over night.
