I liked this so much I printed it and sent it to my fiancee who has 3 kids and I am the wicked step mom. I am very direct and honest and believe you should handle "coaching" "teaching" "being a leader" in this manner.
If you worry about people not liking you for being mean or too direct, then they will find another reason not to like you, such as, "you are too nice" so you get taken advantage of or ran over.
With kids and youth, you do not have to be this way in every day interaction, but when you are trying to mentor them or get a point across in serious conversation.
So certainly in the work place, this is a success and I enjoy knowing that other people agree.

Honest and effective coaching is the key to a successful endeavor. This article provides a significant idea in broadening and keeping the team up for whatever hindrances that may come along the way but as a leader you should set first the virtue of integrity and honesty and everything will just follow. Nice post! Keep it up!

In coaching others, you should be the model first of integrity so they could easily believe in you and what you are coaching.

Great tip. I think most of the people continue with the conversation trying to be polite, using what the famous linguist Geoffrey Leech regarded as politeness maxims. But I guess when you are coaching, it's not the usual everyday social interaction.
And I can safely say that what you are recommending isn't just for the real estate biz. Whether it's plumbing, robotics or soccer, coaching needs to be like this.

Yes honesty is clearly the way forward with staff I to have been guilty of perhaps wishing to be liked by my staff instead of honest apraisal and direction.

Reason amongst the madness I have been admonished by my partner for not being touchy feely with the staff for being to blunt and I was starting to change against my instinct I think you are bang on and I will continue with honest appraisals of my staff.

I agree that honesty is key to being a good coach...sugar coating will not help anyone be successful.
