Successful negotiation is about establishing mutual trust. Both parties need to feel the other is speaking in good faith. But tell me if this has ever happened to you: you’re negotiating with someone when out of the blue they start a sentence with, “To be totally honest with you…” Where did that come from? Should I assume everything spoken previously was a lie?
