Social Media Marketing for Realtors

November 5th, 2009 by Damon

Many agents have set up numerous profiles on social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Active Rain. It’s easy to set up these profiles, but using these technologies is a different ballgame.

Many Realtors fail to utilize these social media profiles correctly and even though they can drive traffic to their website or blog, connect with customers and prospects, build your brand, and give status updates on Twitter, many are actually hurting themselves more than they’re helping themselves.

One of the reasons they fail at social media is that they don’t devote enough time and resources into developing a social media marketing plan and executing on that plan.

Social media is very time consuming and requires that agents stay on top of their social media profiles on a daily bases. How can an active real estate agent focus on social media when they should be busy buying or selling homes? Well, if they have a large enough business, they can hire someone to focus solely on all of the social media profiles and the blog. But what if you’re just starting out or you can’t hire a full time social media guru?

Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day by Dave Evans is a great book to develop your social media plan and execute that plan effectively. Dave gives step-by-step guides to setting up social media profiles for many different websites and how to effectively use each one to drive traffic and build your brand.

So, if you’re looking to set up social media profiles to increase your business or if you need to revisit your social media strategy, buy the book and go through the drills to make sure your online social media plan is a success!

My husband is a realtor and he uses several social media platforms. While I’m not familiar with that book, I can say that generally starting out with one platform and getting into the habit of creating regular updates is of key importance. Once a system is developed (like committing to social media use one hour every day), it is much easier to focus effort and achieve results.
