Realtor Marketing – The Number 1 Mistake to Avoid When Using the Internet For Real Estate Marketing
March 3rd, 2010 by eCommissionMost top producing Realtors now have websites. Many of them are very attractive, with nice graphics and impressive amounts of information. The problem is that these websites almost always have major failings. That is, they usually do not accomplish what their owners think they are accomplishing.
For example, the majority of Realtor websites contain the same information. The typical Realtor thinks if it looks nice and has lots of information it is good. But having the same information as hundreds of other websites is bad, because it means your site will be ignored by search engines like Google.
But these websites have an even bigger problem. They fail to do the one thing that every business website MUST do if it is to be effective in helping your business. You can have a very basic website, and if it accomplishes just one thing for you it will be a great asset to your business.
What every website MUST do is motivate and incentivize each website visitor to give you their email addresses. If you have the most beautiful website in the world it will be a failure if it doesn’t capture visitors’ emails.
If you are able to offer content on your website that is unique to you, then your website will be more attractive and interesting to visitors. Google will like it more too, because it offers valuable information not found on any other website. This will get you more free traffic from search engines.
The unique and valuable content you offer serves another purpose: it can be used to incentivize your visitors to give up their contact information.
For example, if you have a Special Report on Naples Community Price Trends, and no other Realtor has this Special Report, then this will be seen as a very valuable item. You can offer each visitor the ability to download this Special Report for no charge once they register, i.e., give you their emails.
Think of what unique information you can offer your website visitors, and put it to good use as an ethical bribe in exchange for contact information that you put into your automatic follow-up system. If you don’t have time to write such a valuable Special Report, then hire someone to write it for you. It will be worth it.

I don’t think you should necessarily not use it but use a combination of internet marketing and offline marketing to maximize your sales.

I agree! I don’t want my name to show up in google for the general search terms, I want to show up for people in my neighborhood. I think you have to get specialized to be found.

Very true. You have to make your customers want to contact you and do business with you somehow.
